It’s a common best practice to use libraries to control your brand elements. CHILI Publisher allows you to leverage this “library” capability by using Snippets. This guide will walk you through how to set up a CHILI Fonts and Styles Library and a CHILI Assets Library to streamline your future projects.

Benefits of Creating a Library
You can create your own reusable Fonts and Styles Library that includes:
- Brand fonts
- Commonly used paragraph and character styles
- Brand color swatches
You can also create an Assets Library that includes common design elements such as:
- Logos
- Static design images
- Artwork elements
- Any recurring elements that need to be placed in their own frames – think of this as a way to copy and paste frames between CHILI files.
By creating a designated library using Snippets, you can maintain brand consistency and save valuable time when starting new projects.
Create Your Fonts and Styles Library Document
To begin, you’ll create a CHILI document that serves as your centralized design library.
- Create a new document in your BackOffice. Best practice is to save this somewhere outside your Template folder so it is not visible in Tempo.
- Open your Fonts and Styles Library document and navigate to the Text tab on the right hand side. Click the plus sign (+) to add fonts. Navigate to the appropriate font files and upload them as needed.
- Navigate to the Styles tab and define all paragraph and/or character styles you frequently use. These will carry over into any new document you apply the library to.
- Also in the Styles tab, you can add all your brand colors to the swatches panel.
This document will now act as your Fonts and Styles Library.
Create Your Assets Library Document
To begin, you’ll create a CHILI document that serves as your centralized design library.
- Create a new document in your BackOffice. Best practice is to save this somewhere outside your Template folder so it is not visible in Tempo.
- Open your Asset Library document
- To create a new image asset, click the Create Frame dropdown from the top tool bar.
- Scroll down and select Image. This will create a new frame in the upper left hand corner of your document.
- Note: If you need to create a commonly used text element, such as a headline or CTA, select Text.
- Navigate to the Image tab on the right hand sign and click Assign Image.
- Navigate through your existing assets and double click to select the design element you wish to include in your library.
- Note: You can always add new assets by navigating to Resources > Assets > [Desired Asset Folder] > Add New
- In the Image tab, set the desired fit for the frame. These selections will pull into your new document when you use your Asset Library.
- In the Frame tab, set your desired Frame Constraints for the frame. These selections will pull into your new document when you use your Asset Library.
This document will now act as your Asset Library.
Apply your Snippet Library in CHILI
When you're ready to begin a new project:
- Navigate to the location in your BackOffice where you prefer to work on unpublished templates. Click Add New to create a new document.
- Name your new, blank document.
- Double-click your new document to open it. At this point, you’ll notice it’s completely empty — no fonts, styles, or swatches yet.
- Navigate to the Resources tab on the left-hand side, then open the Snippets section.
- You will see your folder structure. Navigate to where you saved your “Library” document.
- Once in that folder, you will see your “Library” document listed below.
- Before applying it to your document, check the box for “Place as Frames.” This ensures that CHILI fully parses the contents of the library — like fonts, colors, styles, and any design elements — as individual frames to be used in your new document. This is also how CHILI will determine any image fit or frame constraints you applied in your Snippets Library.
- Click and drag the Library Snippet you would like to use onto your page. When you see the green plus sign, drop the library into your new document. It will begin importing.
- While CHILI may not find any visual frames in your fonts and styles library, your fonts, styles, and color swatches will still be available and ready for use.
With your styles, fonts, and colors imported, you can now start designing your new CHILI document with confidence and consistency. This method not only saves time but ensures every piece you create is on-brand and professionally styled.
Lytho Pro Tip: Keep your library updated! Anytime your brand guidelines evolve, make sure to reflect those changes in your CHILI library document so all future projects stay aligned.
