The CHILI Converter Adobe Extension is an essential tool for converting InDesign files into the CHILI BackOffice. This guide will walk you through the steps to use the CHILI Converter 4 extension effectively.

Don't have the Adobe CC + CHILI extensions? Download them here

To access the CHILI Converter Extension, open Adobe InDesign. From the Window tab, hover over Extensions and select CHILI Converter 4.

Pro tip: Pin the extension to your workspace for easy access.

Within the Server tab of the CHILI Converter extension, enter your login details to connect InDesign with the CHILI BackOffice. This step is crucial for the successful export of your files.

To configure your import settings, navigate to the Import Settings section of the extension. Here, you'll determine where your items will be stored within the CHILI BackOffice.

Select the Browse option to choose the appropriate folder for your documents, images, and fonts. The folders available for selection are those already set up in the CHILI BackOffice, mimicking a traditional folder structure on a server. You can also adjust document options, such as including hidden layers (this is especially relevant when you want to create Alternate Layouts).

Recommended Document options:

Within the Export to CHILI Publisher section, you can lock layers from your InDesign document. When you lock layers, the elements in those layers are flattened into a single, high resolution PDF, making the document more efficient for CHILI to process and improving how it handles those layers. Locking static layers is a great way to optimize the file for a smoother experience.

Once you've configured all the necessary settings, click Go. CHILI will ask to save your InDesign file, and your file will be uploaded to the CHILI Publish BackOffice.
