LinkSync Connector for Adobe InDesign

Modified on Mon, 28 Oct at 8:41 AM

Lytho's LinkSync Connector for Adobe InDesign keeps your design files synced to the Lytho DAM so embedded images never break or disappear. Images placed in InDesign files via the Lytho DAM plugin are linked by URL instead of being copied to your machine and referenced as a local asset. This means that embedded image links never break, and those images are easily updated to the most recent version based on DAM activity. The LinkSync Connector allows teams to share InDesign files without needing to package them, create duplicates of the embedded images, worry about version confusion, or connect to a company server.

Lytho's LinkSync Connector supports Adobe InDesign CC 2025.

Lytho's LinkSync Connector is not included in all subscriptions. Interested in the expanded functionality? Reach out to Lytho Support to learn more!

How to Install

Close Adobe InDesign.

Install the Lytho DAM plugin from the Adobe Exchange. If you already have the DAM plugin, make sure you have the latest version by logging into Creative Cloud > Plugins.

Use the links below to download the LinkSync Connector installer. Once downloaded, open the installer and follow the steps to add it to your machine.

When the LinkSync Connector is successfully installed, open Adobe InDesign. The below message will pop-up. Select Yes

You will be directed to enter your license key. Enter your personalized key, then select OK

A LinkSync Connector license is a purchased add-on to an existing DAM user. Each license represents an activation for a single device. If you do not have a license key, contact Lytho Support

You will be notified when the activation is successful.

Moving forward, Adobe InDesign will have a top navigation Connector tab.

Lytho Pro Tip - From the Connector dropdown, toggle on Place High-Res and Show Import Options

Once the LinkSync Connector has been successfully installed, open an Adobe InDesign document.

Open the Lytho DAM plugin. Input your Organization and Region, then select Continue.

Your browser will open prompting you to enter your Lytho credentials.

Next, you will be prompted to grant the LinkSync Connector access privileges. Select Yes

Once successfully signed in and privileges granted, you may close your browser and return to InDesign. You are now able to sync assets between the Lytho DAM and Adobe InDesign.

Updating Lytho DAM User Roles

Before using the LinkSync Connector, users must update their Role in the Lytho DAM to include the LinkSync Connector for InDesign rule.

Log into the Lytho DAM, navigate to Settings > User Settings > Roles. This is where you will update an existing Role OR create a new Role for license key holders.

Create a new role or choose an existing role to edit. Within that role, navigate to the DAM tab and toggle on the LinkSync Connector for InDesign rule.

Then select Save.

Once the Role is updated, double check your users are assigned to that Role. You can do this under the Settings > User Settings > Users, selecting an individual user, and reviewing the Role tab.

Placing Link Synced Assets

Once the LinkSync Connector is installed and you are logged into the Lytho DAM Plugin, open the Lytho DAM Plugin to search for the asset you would like to use. Hover over the image and select Place. Your link synced asset is now available within the InDesign document.

Versioned Assets

If an asset is versioned within the Lytho DAM, the most up-to-date version will be used in your InDesign document. Navigate to the Links panel, then double-click the triangle caution icon to re-sync your versioned asset.

Deleted Assets

If an asset is deleted from the Lytho DAM, an error icon will appear within the Links panel of InDesign. Deleted assets cannot be used within the InDesign file and will need to be replaced or removed.

Packaging InDesign Files Using URL Linked Assets

When packaging an Adobe InDesign file using URL linked assets, follow the standard process for packaging within InDesign. When the second pop-up module appears to select the location of your file, unselect "Copy Linked Graphics." Once the file is packaged, there will not be a Links folder within your file. All links will remain URL based.

Lytho Pro Tip: If you are sending a packaged Adobe InDesign file to an outside resource, such as a print vendor, it is recommended to keep "Copy Linked Graphics" turned on.

Deactivating a License

Need to free up one of your LinkSync Connector licenses? Open Adobe InDesign > select the Connector dropdown menu > then select Deactivate
